OUR HISTORY
OVERVIEW OF GREEN HILL MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH HISTORY
After relocating to South Carolina from Virginia, Brother Farish Smith saw a need to further the Lord’s work. In 1910, Brother Farish Smith started a prayer service in his home. The prayer service was open to the community. The number of participants grew quickly. Brother Smith decided he would need a larger place for prayer and worship services. Mr. Henry Ousley gave him an old house on his land. Prayer services were held here for a while. Mr. Ousley eventually asked for his house back. Mrs. Irene Byrd sold Brother Farish Smith one acre of land for $15.00. In 1912, Brother Farish Smith built a Bush Harbor to conduct church services. The following deacons were appointed by Brother Farish Smith; Brothers Scipio Jenkins, Stephen George, and Farish Smith himself. The pastor was Reverend J. D. Howard.
